Red pigments

Ocre rouge RFLES (= red ochre RFLES - dark red washed extra superior) results from the cooking of the ocre jaune JFLES (yellow ochre JFLES), extracted from our quarry in Gargas (Vaucluse). It is the finest ochre, the most followed and the most loaded in iron oxide (for more information, read our article on the manufacture of ochre HERE).

L'Oxy Apt rouge is a pigment preparation based on our yellow ochre. First called "red oxide of Apt" in reference to the city of Apt -where is the Ocres de France's factory-, it has become over the time the Oxy Apt rouge (= red oxy Apt).

L'ombre de Chypre B (= umber B of Cyprus) is an umber that comes from Cyprus. The umber earth probably owes its name to the latin "umbra" (shadow) which was once used to cast down the colors. Cyprus is the largest producer of earths in the Mediterranean basin. Traces of this earth can be found everywhere. They are taken in the form of clay which makes them accessible and cheap pigments.
